Gerbera is a flowering plant classified under the Daisy Family. Named after the German Botanist – Traugott Gerber, these flowers are excellent for outdoor gardens, indoor plants, wedding bouquets and interior decorations. In this article, we are not talking about the natural Gerbera plants (and its flowers) but the Silk based artificial Gerbera daisies.

Gerbera is a very popular flowering plant and is commonly used as gardening plant or as cut flowers. It is the fifth most popular flower (used commercially) after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulips. Gerbera’s are commonly known as African Daisies and its natural distribution is found in Africa, Asia, and South America (tropical regions of these continents).

Gerbera’s exist in thousands of varieties (cultivars) and the most popular one we all see and use is known as Gerbera Hybrida (a cross between Gerbera jamesonii and South African variety Gerbera viridifolia). Gerbera’s vary greatly in shape and size. The most commonly found colors are White, Yellow, Orange, Red and Pink. Often the same Gerbera flower will have petals of many different colors.

Natural Gerbera flowers are a wonderful decorative but like everything natural, they have a short life (once cut from stem).
